Skin to stem

Our biggest organ already serves us in so many ways – as protector, absorber, synthesizer, thermostat, and switchboard. Thanks to a scary-sounding process called “somatic cell nuclear transfer”, we can now add “healer” to that list. 

As it turns out, human stem cells have now been created using human skin cells. The process does not involve the use of fertilized embryos, which means ethical concerns can be laid to rest.
